Robotic voice effect using a en:vocoder. This effect is often found in film and television productions. For the technically minded, the voice is modulating a 110Hz en:sawtooth wave, which is the note A two octaves below en:A440. There is also some en:reverberation and phasing added. A close-up stereo recording (3 meters) of a freight train idling then passing by. You can hear the train slowly accelerating more and more, until it is going by at very fast speeds. After the train has gone by, the train can be head in the distance. (sound was recorded using a mzr-700 md recorder and a sony ecm-ms907 microphone).

I made this recording about 3 o'clock in the morning and the early morning summer insect chorus was joined by the "iron horse" -- man's ever present reminder of the river of man's commerce. Made with my zoom h4n field recorder using it's built-in internal microphones. .

I recorded this sound at the steam-locomotives preservation park in kyoto, japan. Roar of steam whistle was much louder than i had imagined, so it was necessary to set the gain level of mic-preamp carefully. Using at825 and fr-2.
